Maternity Wear

A few years back, a fashion conscious woman was dead scared of being pregnant. Thanks to the ugly looking smocks and over blouses that defined a pregnancy wardrobe of those times. But gone are those days now. The maternity wear has evolved to be a lot more interesting, fashionable and practical to wear these days. Besides, you can also mix-and-match these outfits with other accessories that can be used even post pregnancy, thereby avoiding waste of money and resources.

However, one must be very careful in choosing your pregnancy wear. Here are a few must consider pointers before you invest in these outfits. With pregnancy, your size will keep on changing continuously, growing by the day. Hence, it is always advisable to purchase clothes as you go and not go on a huge buying spree on the day one of your pregnancy news or as soon as you stop fitting into your old jeans. Besides, looking at the time period for which you will continue using these clothes, which is too short, it could turn out to be a heavy investment and even unnecessary one. Though you might try the pregnancy pillows given in the fitting rooms to check on your future possible size, it is never so accurate and can give you little indication on how you will turn out to be, either high, low, big or small. Comfort is also another factor that needs to be considered while shopping.

Now, there is no need to restrict your choice of outfits to maternity clothes. You can always choose from other sections as long they fit you. They can also prove to be value for money as most maternity clothes are usually more expensive than the normal clothes. There can be a lot of styles from the latest fashion that you could probably pick up. But do not overindulge. Once you are done with the pregnancy, it is highly likely that you might be tempted to pack them away like most other maternity clothes. Also, concentrate on your personal sense of style. While you might be happy wearing all those frilly clothes to give yourself a lady-in-expecting mood, the chances are that the mood might last only for a while. Post that, you will crave to return to your much somber style and hence it is important to not get carried away and preserve your sense of style.

Pregnant women have to make a lot of inevitable fashion compromises. However, accessories are something that can compensate the loss, be it just a scarf or a pair of beautiful earrings, it can simply enhance the look. Pregnancy is accompanied by breast expansion and hence a well fitting supportive bra set is a must have. However, it is important that you don’t wait for a sale to happen. Rather, visit an experienced fitter who can guide you to get yourself the right fit. You might find one at a lingerie department or a stand-alone shop. Again, the rule is, do not stock them. As your size grows, you will stop fitting in the pair you might have just bought. Hence, try and invest in only a couple of them at a time. You need not necessarily opt for maternity lingerie as they are high waist and uncomfortable at most occasions. The best option is wearing a large size bikini that will easily fit under your bikini. You can always buy bikinis in a variety of colors and designs. However, make sure that the crotches are always cotton.

What more, you can always dig into your husband’s closet to find something interesting to wear. Though, it would be a good idea to ask for it. You can try out those oversized t-shirts and shirts and belt them under your belly with interesting belts to give a nice silhouette.  You can experiment with the sweatpants and running shorts that can easily keep up with your ever increasing waistline during pregnancy and belts that will give you a few extra notches to fit your bulge can easily be borrowed from your husband’s collection.

Your metabolism rate increases during pregnancy and hence it is highly likely to make your body warmer. Hence cottons are the most preferred fabric during pregnancy. Weaves, light floral fabrics stitched in a loose fit will always remain your best friend during pregnancy. Most women prefer knee highs over pantyhose but the ones with the narrow constrictive band at the top are best avoided during pregnancy. When the weather is cool, instead of opting for one single thick layer of protection, opt for multi-layered dress which you can easily peel off one after the other based on your requirement.

Sharing is again a good thing and works best during pregnancy. If you happen to have a friend who has neatly packed her pregnancy clothes and wish to share them with you, do not hesitate. You can always complement them with your own personal style of accessories. Once you are done with these clothes, you can either return them or relend it to your newly pregnant friend. It’s the best way to get value out of money for something that you need only for a limited period of time.
